Who is Dante?

Welcome to Dante’s Coffee Roasters opening blog. For our first blog, I wanted to keep things light – there is plenty of time for “coffee geek speak” in future blogs.  For now, let me answer a question that is often asked of us…

“Who is Dante?”

Dante’s Coffee was founded by Domenico Dante Spadaccini in 2010. Domenic shares his middle name with a major Florentine poet of the late middle ages – Dante Alighieri, whose 3-part poem, the “Divine Comedy”, is widely considered the greatest literary work composed in the Italian language, and a masterpiece of world literature.

This work describes Dante’s journey through Hell (Inferno), Purgatory (Purgatorio), and finally Paradise (Paradiso); first guided by the Roman poet Virgil and then by his beloved Beatrice who sadly had passed away previously.  It is constructed in 3 parts (Trilogy) or chapters, which coincide with the various stages of the journey. While the poem is called a “comedy”, there is nothing comedic about its content.

Dante Alighieri’s “Divine Comedy” is a serious work of art, and was the inspiration for  two  Dante’s Coffee signature blends – Dante’s Inferno blend and Dante’s Paradiso blend, both of which are available in our online shop.

Now if only we can get Domenic to work his blending and creative genius to produce a Purgatorio blend….
